User Research
Conducted interviews to gather information and understand the needs of users behaviors and motivations.
The goal was to analyze a problem in our community (life, school, or work) and draft a persuasive analysis report offering a solution. Enact real social change that is beneficial for the community and society at large. After the adoption of my cat Fiona in 2010, pet adoption become an important topic to me for which I advocate.
Pre-research on pet adoption allowed me to discover that there are individuals who are against pet adoption. Shocked about allegations that shelter animals are aggressive, have behavioral issues, and health problems. An analytical recommendation report about the benefits of pet adoption opposed to purchasing was formed.
After the topic was selected, the challenge become, “how to persuade the public to choose adoption over purchasing.” To do this, two individuals who own purebreds and an Animal Care Technician at the Inland Valley Humane Society and S.P.C.A were interviewed and asked if any of the animals in the shelter are dangerous dog breeds or have behavioral issues and health issues.
The tone of the document was adaptive to the subject, purpose, and audience. As the topic developed so did the reasons why animals are in shelters such as the previous owner did not consider allergies, renter’s agreement, or lifestyle. Visual elements such as graphs and tables were used to persuade the reader that shelter animals are not aggressive, they do not have health issues, or behavioral problems.
The analytical report was organized with a user-center approach to transition the reader from one idea to the next. The report allowed me to communicate the results of the research findings to the audience.
